Dental Health
It is important to visit your dentist during pregnancy, especially if you notice any changes in your teeth or gums.
Here are some warning signs of gum disease:
- Bleeding gums
- Tender, red, sensitive gums – may bleed when you brush your teeth
- Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- Bad breath or bad taste in mouth
- Loose teeth
- Changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
In addition to visiting your dentist during pregnancy, there are a number of things you yourself can do everyday.
Here are some ways to help prevent gum disease:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste
- Floss between your teeth
- Eat nutritious meals from the five food groups
- Avoid foods in high sugar
