Child Care Health Consultant Program

The Louisiana Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC) Program was started in 1991 with funding from the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program Title V Block Grant & Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems Grant Funds. The CCHC Program was designed to assist Child Care Centers with meeting the licensure requirements for education on Health & Safety. Child care providers at Class A and Class B facilities must receive three clock hours of Health & Safety education annually by certified CCHCs for licensure as required by DHH, DCFS, and the Bureau of Licensing. This education includes topics such as food safety, infection control procedures, facility/playground safety, and medication administration. Each year health professionals, including nurses, registered dietitians, social workers, and physicians, from around the state are trained to become a Child Care Health Consultant to provide the health and safety education to child care centers. To date Louisiana has 139 CCHCs.
