Baby Proofing Your Home
Checking your home for possible dangers is very important for keeping your baby safe. Below are a few tips for each room in your house that will help prevent your baby from discovering any hidden dangers in your home. Every Room:

Put locks or safety latches on all kid-level cabinets and doors |
| • |
Cover sharp corners of tables and furniture with protective cushioning |
| • |
Put safety covers on electrical outlets throughout your house |
| • |
Keep wires and cords (such as cords from your blinds) stored up high |
| • |
Install smoke detectors outside bedrooms and in the kitchen |
| • |
Store sharp objects in a high place or keep locked in a drawer |
| • |
Store cleaning products in a high place and in their original containers |
| • |
Keep all medicine in child-proof containers and out of your baby’s reach |
Nursery/Bedroom:

Never borrow or buy a used crib that is not safety proof |
| • |
Keep crib away from the window, shelves, or wall decorations |
| • |
Once your baby can stand in the crib, put the crib mattress at the lowest point |

Fix the wall if the paint is peeling off |
Kitchen:

Put locks or safety latches on the refrigerator or oven |
| • |
Cover stove knobs with safety guards so your baby can’t turn them on |
| • |
Use the back burners of the stove and keep the handles of pots and pans out of your baby’s reach |

Store knives and other kitchen utensils in a high place or locked away |
Bathroom:

Unplug hair dryers and other electrical items and store in a high place |
| • |
Put a bathroom mat on the bottom of the tub |
| • |
Use a rubber-backed bath mat if the bathroom is not carpeted |

Use a toilet lid safety lock to keep the toilet lid down |
