Where can I find information about breastfeeding to offer my patient?
- The La Leche League mother to mother breastfeeding support, has useful information for moms-to-be. Click on the link below for breastfeeding help and resources and to find a LLL group in the area.
- The Partners for Healthy Babies Helpline at 1-800-251-BABY offers a complete listing of lactation resources statewide. Our helpful operators can assist you in finding a lactation consultant or resource for your patient.
- Additionally, the International Lactation Consultant Association offers a directory of lactation consultants worldwide.
- The Central Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition promotes, protects and supports breastfeeding in central Louisiana, facilitates networking among those who promote, protect and support breastfeeding, and serves as a resource for professionals and lay persons in the community interested in getting information on lactation and breastfeeding.
- The Greater New Orleans Breastfeeding Awareness Coalition (GNOBAC) mission is to increase awareness of the benefits of and support for breastfeeding among persons of influence in the lives of mothers, children and families in Louisiana, and to partner with other organizations in creating a community where breastfeeding is the norm.
- WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children (under 5 years old). Clinics promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding and provide support both in person and via the telephone. The new food packages for breastfeeding infant-mother pairs provide stronger incentives for continued breastfeeding.
