Injury Prevention / Child Safety

Louisiana’s Child Safety Initiative, functions to address child injury prevention by seeking to reduce the leading causes of unintentional injuries and deaths in Louisiana among children from birth through 14 years of age.

Child Safety Coordinators

Each of the 9 public health regions of Louisiana maintains a regional Child Safety Coordinator. It is their role to raise awareness and educate communities, including parents, childcare providers, and teachers, about child injury prevention.

All Child Safety Coordinators are certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who assist with car seat check-up events and teach passenger safety classes to both adults and children. They are certified Child Care Health Consultants, teaching safety concepts in childcare facilities throughout the state.
