Partners for Healthy Babies
Partners for Healthy Babies is a project of the state’s Maternal and Child Health and WIC program. It was initiated in 1993 to address Louisiana’s high infant mortality rate and the large number of low birthweight babies born each year. The project uses health communication, multi media and social marketing strategies to reach its audiences.
How Does Partners for Healthy Babies Help?
Health communication and marketing tactics are employed to address many of the contributing risk factors to infant deaths, including early prenatal care, healthy nutrition and weight gain during pregnancy , substance use and preconception health.
Partners for Healthy Babies also promotes a toll free helpline 1-800-251-BABY (2229) that women can call 24/7 to get information information and referrals to medical and social services in their area.
