The GIFT (Breastfeeding)

Partners for Healthy Babies
Partners for Healthy Babies is a project of the state’s Maternal and Child Health and WIC program. It was initiated in 1993 to address Louisiana’s high infant mortality rate and the large number of low birthweight babies born each year.
WIC / Nutrition
WIC is a Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children (under 5 years old). WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition information and referrals to other health and social services.
Sexual Violence Prevention
The Rape Education and Prevention Program grant is now housed in the state’s MCH Program. Since 1995, federal funding for the grant has allowed Louisiana to build and support prevention and intervention services throughout the state via a network of Sexual Assault Centers, working towards ending sexual violence through education, program support and social change.
